Welcome to Elgin Rotary Club's website. Here you will find a brief introduction to the club and its history as well as a little bit of information on the local area and its landmarks.

Elgin Rotary Club is part of the 1010 District which stretches from Fife in the South to the Shetland Isles in the North, a small but vital part of the Rotary International organisation that stretches over 200 countries with approximately 1.2 million Rotarians.

Currently the club has 74 members + 3 honorary members. An extremely active club, Elgin is involved in most aspects of Rotary where service and fellowship apply. Visitors to our club will find a warm welcome awaits them. Come along and enjoy our Thursday lunch, the speaker and meeting the members.


Meetings are held every Thursday in the Mansion House Hotel, Elgin IV30 1AW (off the Tesco roundabout) at 12:45pm for 1pm

Elgin Rotary Club News


100 Charities benefit from Marafun's £54,000.

At a ceremony in Elgin Town Hall, on November 18th 2009 , 100 local charities received their share of the funds raised by the 2009 Marafun city centre marathon relay race.

The total raised was £54,056, a wonderful achievement by the runners, sponsors and helpers.

13th February: The 28th Bothy Ballads Competition in Elgin Town Hall at 7pm.

The Annual competition to find the 'Champion of Champions', sponsored by The Macallan, Claymore Dairies and Duncan's of Deeside. Ticket prices will include stovies with oatcakes and a dram or a glass of milk and they are now on sale from Elgin Library but be quick, they are going fast. 3rd September: A Concert by the Band of The Royal Marines.

After the disappointing cancellation of the 2009 concert in Elgin Town Hall due to flooding, Elgin Rotary Club is delighted to announce the rescheduled concert in 2010 in aid of Hope For Heroes.


The Fellowship Malt:

A special and exclusive bottling of a smooth Speyside Single Malt brought to you by Elgin Rotary Club and sold to benefit Rotary Foundation where the funds raised have been used to immunise over 250,000 children against polio and helping the global push to eradicate this dreadful disease.

The Rotary Year 2009/2010

This brings a change of theme and club officials. Graeme Archibald, finance director at Johnstons of Elgin since 1992 takes over from David Sutherland as President. This is accompanied by changes of senior vice-president to Solicitor Ian Davidson, junior vice president to Teacher, Graeme Milne and the introduction of a new secretary, Iain Jamieson.

A Brief History of the club

  • The first meeting took place in the Burgh Courthouse on 13th May 1926.
  • The charter was presented in Kilmolymock Freemasons' Hall on 25th November 1927.
  • There were 24 Founder Members and the founder President was the late E.S. Harrison of Johnstons of Elgin (later to become Lord Provost of Elgin).
  • The founder secretary was the late F.A. Ritson, C.A.
  • The Charter was signed by Arthur Supp, President of Rotary International and presented by J.H. Weston, Chairman of the Scottish District.
  • The Club was visited and addressed by Rotary International President and founder of Rotary, Paul Harris, on 2nd of June 1934, when he and Mrs Harris visited Elgin.
  • In 2005, HRH princess Royal accepted honorary Membership of the Club
